The Great Buddy Award

A few weeks ago Ana from Aneca's World gave me the Great Buddy Award. It totally made my day, but since I'm lazy I didn't get around to awarding it to anyone else. Until today, that is. It seemed fitting after my last post.

How it works:

1.. Put the logo on your blog.
2. Add a link to the person who awarded you.
3. Award up to ten other blogs.
4. Add links to those blogs on yours.
5. Leave a message for your awardees on their blogs.

Ten sounds like a lot until you start trying to choose. But these are some of my favorite haunts, and some of my best buds. First and foremost I want to give it back to Ana. I really heart her and she totally deserves it.

For the rest in no particular order:

Zeek's Page
Carolyn Jean

I'm also going to award three more. Casee and Rowena are my blogging sisters at Book Binge and Casee also blogs with me at Not Dead Yet and Sybil, who sometimes let's me play with her and the other ducks at The Good, The Bad and The Unread. I really couldn't NOT give it to them, ya know? Love you girls.

What about you? Who are your buddies?

Blogroll, Friendship and Life

When I first started this blog (OMG 3 years ago!) I signed up for a Blogrolling account to keep tracks of the blogs listed on my sidebar. I think it's much easier to have them all in once place and that was long before Blogger came out with link lists or anything similar (which, btw, I really hate. They don't transfer if you change to a custom template and there's no way to back it up or copy it. They really need to work the kinks out, IMO). But about..gosh, I don't know, 6 or so months ago, Blogrolling stopped working. I'm not sure exactly what happened but it had something to do with their servers when they tried to move to a new platform or something like that.

But that meant, while my links still showed on my sidebar, I couldn't login and make any changes to them. So there were all kinds of dead links, links to blogs I don't read anymore, links to blogs that stopped blogging 5 years ago, etc. So today I finally said screw it and just redid it all by hand. It was a PITA, but it didn't take as long as I thought it would.

I deleted a lot of the blogs that don't update anymore and moved others to the "Blogs I Stalked Into Hiding Tab"..and then I deleted some blogs I used to read everyday but have since lost their appeal to me, or that I became bored with.

I'm also afraid I forgot to put some blogs back on, or that I missed some new ones. If your blog isn't on my sidebar shoot me an email or leave a comment and I'll add it.

Which brings me to...

I've been really blessed in the last few years to meet some amazing people on the internet. People who have become some of my best friends and favorite people in the world. It's still somewhat amazing to me that my closets friends are ones I met online. I guess because I was growing up when the internet really became big and the first lesson I learned was not to meet people from the internet. That was a BIG no-no when I first started playing online. And I know a lot of my friends and family still think it's kind of odd. Not that I've let that stop me, it's just that it still seems strange to me, even after all this time.

Because of social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, I've made even more new friends recently. Maybe we aren't BFFs who live in each others pockets and talk on the phone 24/7, but I feel like I'm getting to know them and want to know more. Isn't that great? And still a little crazy?

Of course, I also lost some friends this year. Or lost touch with some. Some of them I miss a lot (Mailyn, where are you??), but it's funny, because I think I should probably be more upset about some of them than I am. There's a song by Rascal Flatts on their Me and My Gang album called, "I Feel Bad" and I think it fits this situation perfectly. In case you haven't heard it the chorus goes, "I feel bad..because I don't feel bad."

Of course I also reconnected with some friends I'd lost touch with, which is wonderful. I may only talk to some of them once in awhile, or I may go months without speaking to them, but with them I feel like we just pick up right where we left off.

Which I guess is just part of life. People move in and out of your life. Sometimes it's painful, sometimes it's not. I do feel like my life wouldn't be as full or as rich without some of you in it. So thanks.

The only guarantee we have is that life will move on. I really hope all of you will move on with me.

I Love MM's Grandma

One of the best parts of marrying MM was getting his family for in-laws (for the most part), especially his grandparents. They're a ton of fun and always surprising me with the quirky things they say and do.

His grandma is a jokster who is constantly sending me silly emails and funny forwards. But yesterday she sent me the best one ever, I think.

You Know How I Know I'm Married?

There comes a time in every woman's life when she realizes she's no longer young and single. For me this happened about the time I turned 20, popped out my second kid and realized being married to the RB wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

But then I got divorced and my kids got a little older and I realized I had a new lease on life. I haven't ever been much of a party-girl, but it was nice to have some independence, since my kids didn't need as much of my time and attention. The older they get, the more freedom I have. Pretty soon I'll be able to run to the store by myself or leave the kids home if MM and I want to have dinner out. In the meantime, it's nice when they go stay with my parents or with their dad, because it gives MM and I alone time.

During Christmas vacation the kids went to stay with their dad for a week. MM and I decided to take advantage of the time alone and do some hiking. It isn't very often that we get to go out by ourselves. MM used his new GPS (my replacement) to find us a new route and we set off. There was still some snow on the ground from our big snowstorm (heh) but for the most part it was warm and sunny..and quiet.

So there we are. Out in nature. Alone. No other hikers were out and the kids were gone. So I thought..hey..we're alone. In nature. Why don't we, you know, find our alone happy place. If you know what I mean and I think you do. I kind of glance over at MM out of the corner of my eye and he's tromping along, checking out his GPS, lost in thought. The longer I look at him the more turned on I get. He's so tall and strong, his shoulders are so broad, his look of concentration so sexy. I step closer to him and kind of lean over, brushing my arm with his. "Speaking of being alone," I say and waggle my eyebrows. He laughs and I think, yeah baby. But instead of stopping or throwing me on the ground and having his way with me, he just keeps walking. Hmm. I say, "You know, we're out here, all alone. We know." He smiles and says, "We could..." but he keeps walking.

And that, my friends, is when I realized I really am married. Here I am, propositioning my husband, offering him that much coveted nature sex...and he just keeps on walking.

Just in case you're, we never did have nature sex. We even drove up and parked at the top of this peak overlooking the valley to watch the sunset and..nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

And men complain they don't get any after marriage. Ha! Now I realize what it really means to be an old married couple. It's not constant bickering or anything as interesting as all that.

It's getting turned down for nature sex.

New Mom Blog Post: Boys Are Strange

I have a new post up on our Mom Blog.

Boys Are Strange

We have approximately 4 power outlets per room in our house. Some rooms have more and some rooms have less, but the average is 4. We have 9 rooms in our house, so that means we have approximately 36 power outlets in our house. I'd say of those, probably 4 are completely filled and and another 5 or so are covered by furniture. That leaves us with 27 open and available power outlets in our house. From where I'm sitting on the couch I can see 3 of them. the rest here

It's MM's Fault - He's In Charge

As I'm sure you noticed heh heh heh it's been pretty quiet around here. Well, except for my Twitter updates, anyway. It seems that I caught a case of Bloggers Block awhile back and haven't really gotten past it yet. I honestly think it's because marrying MM made me dumber, but I can't prove it scientifically. Yet.

Anyway, since I haven't been able to think of anything to write about, I let this blog fall to the wayside while I did other things (like Twittered and played Scrabble on Facebook and posted on my Mom Blog ok so I haven't really posted on my Mom Blog, but whatever). But I decided I've had enough of that. It's time to return to the land of the living. Er..blogging. Whatever. The fact of the matter is - I turned off my Twitter updates. For now.

Shocking, I know.

I can't promise I'll be back to blogging on a regular schedule, but I do promise not to hide behind my Tweets much anymore.

Chantal and Andrea, are you happy now?

As I'm sure you can imagine, after this long of a hiatus, I'm out of the habit of blogging. It used to be that when things would happen I'd immediately think, "OMG! I so have to blog about that!" or I'd say to MM, "Ha! I am SO blogging about that." Now, however, I don't even think about it. Or if I do, it's a passing thought and I've forgoten 5 minutes later. So I made an executive decision and put MM in charge of my blog content.

Yes, you read that right, MM is now in charge of everything I blog about. He's been giving me hell lately for not blogging when I'm just, "sitting at home with nothing to do anyway" *stares* Yes, he actually said that and lived to tell the tale, so I told him, "Fine, from now on YOU tell me when to blog about stuff." Ha! Let's see how he likes the pressure.

Well, to be honest I told him that like 2 months ago. But that's not the point. The point is I'm now going to hold him accountable if I have nothing to blog about which works out nicely as a way to say, "It's all MM's fault!" - not that we'll tell him that.

I suppose, if you're feeling generous, you can help MM out by gently (I said gently jerkyfaces!) reminding me to blog about things you've seen me Twitter about, or talk about on Facebook, or comment about I left at another blog, or that I shared with you in an email well, some of the stuff I email y'all about. There are certain things I don't want my mother reading about, m'kay. I'm sure MM will love you long time for it would greatly apprecaite it.

Because we all know MM isn't the sharpest tool in the shed he'll forget.

I've Been Replaced

Remember how I told you we got GPS's for Christmas?  Mine is one that goes in the car and MM's is a handheld version.  He's been practically orgasmic over his and we finally took it out a couple weeks ago hiking.  We stopped no less than 8 times so he could stop to play with it.  Today I finally uploaded the pictures and realized...I've been replaced.  Isn't that sad?

Poor me.

I'm A Barbie Girl, In a Barbie World

I often tell MM he doesn't want to leave me alone and bored for too long, because there's no telling what I'll come up with to amuse myself.  Judging by Tracy's recent blog post, I'm not the only one who suffers from this affliction.  I heart Tracy, have I mentioned that before?

Evidently she was bored at Toys-R-Us last night and started screwing around in the Barbie section.   Go check out her post to see the rest.

I have to admit, I've been bored.  Like, really bored. But I don't think I've seen my friends faces in barbies before.  I also have to admit - I look pretty hot as a Barbie.

3 Years and Counting

Christine recently blogged about her 1 year Blog Anniversary.  Reading her post made me realize mine had just passed.  On December 9th my blog turned 3 years old.

It's kind of hard to believe I've been doing this (or not doing this, as the case has been lately) for three whole years.  It's also hard to believe that as of October MM and I have been together for three years.  In 3 months we'll have been married for a year.  Isn't it crazy how time flies?

Holly's 2008 in Review:

I also lost a few friends and made some new ones.
I'm still madly in love with my husband and feel like this first year of marriage was everything it's supposed to be.

So, I guess somethings never change and some things never stay the same.

Here's wishing you the best in 2009.

Much love,

The Beer Fairy

MM's latest beer obsession is Sam Adams Cherry Wheat.  He discovered it several months ago and just loves it.  The problem? It's kind of hard to find.  Whenever he sees it he buys whatever is in stock, because sometimes he'll go months without finding it.  We have a "beer fridge" in our garage and at one point it was filled with nothing but Cherry Wheat.

Sadly, the last few months our reserves dried up and MM hasn't been able to find any in stock.  He turned some of his friends on to it and they said they found some at various stores around town, but when MM would go to pick some up they were out of stock.  As a result, we have no Cherry Wheat in the house.  This makes MM very sad.  And let me tell you, a sad MM is not a fun MM to be around.

But apparently the Beer Fairy has been watching and decided MM was a good boy.  Just now he opened the front door and guess what he found?  A 6 pack of Cherry Wheat.  Right there on the doorstop. I just mysteriously appeared.

So for all you boys and girls out there who are wondering - the Beef Fairy does exist. Maybe if you're good she'll make a special delivery at your house, too.

(We really don't know where it came from.  It was just there)

2009 Is Here!

With love,
Holly and MM (and kids)
