Well, I do. It's horrible!
I moved here in 2002 and went to work for the same company my mom was working for. Just as a temporary, part-time thing so I could learn the business (it was more like an intern thing than anything at that point), and after a few months, that stopped working for me, so I found something else.
Then, a friend of the family heard of another position and put in a good word for me. That's how I came to work here. My boss hired me in January 2003. In March of '03 he fired his processor and promoted me..which was scary as hell, because I was hired as the receptionist and had NO EXPERIENCE processing. So, I started learning the business and he hired a more experienced processor in the meantime...my mother.
Surprisingly, we work well together. It's not too difficult to separate our personal and professional lives, plus with her separation anxiety issues, it works well for her. I have some issues, but for the most part, I'm ok. Usually.
Then, two years ago, my boss opened a second branch office in another town. He needed a receptionist, so my sister applied and was hired. Now, there's no way in hell I could have worked in the same office with my mom and my sister, but since she was like 3 towns away, it worked out. Mostly.
To make matters even worse, my dad came to work for our company at the beginning of this year. Can you believe that? My entire freaking family (with the exception of my brother, who's going to school in Utah) work for the same company. I mean, can it get any better? (insert sarcasm here)
Normally, my dad and sister are in one office and me and my mom are in another, so we don't really have to deal with each other. Sometimes, though, drama spills over and we all get sucked in.
That's what happened this morning.
Now, we've established already that my sister is a drama queen. She blows everything out of proportion. And I mean, everything. Doesn't matter what happens, she makes a huge issue out of it. Always.
So, the other day my sister emails my boss and tells him she's taking yesterday off. Yes, TELLS him. No, she doesn't request the day off, she just says, "I'm taking Thursday off". Now, this pissed my boss off. I don't blame him, either. I mean, it's just flat out common sense if nothing else that you ASK for time off, not just TAKE time off, right?
He replies to her and says that employees generally ASK for time off and it was disrespectful and blah, blah, blah. Well, this pisses my sister off. "Why can everyone else take time off but not me? How DARE he email me like that?" OMG! She FREAKED.
She calls him and tells him she didn't mean to DEMAND the day off, but she HAS to do this makeup stuff for school and he should understand that and...whatever. She basically just hit him with a bunch of attitude. And then, she did the unthinkable.
She hung up on him.
No, really. I'm dead serious. The freakin retarded idiot HUNG UP ON HER BOSS! The man that signs her paychecks. Is that freakin unbelievable, or what? Had it been me, I would have fired her ass. Instead, he wrote her up.
Now, I had to leave at 1:30 yesterday to take Little Man and The Girl to the dentist (LM had to have his follow up from the baseball incident and they both needed cleanings and checkups) so I wasn't here for any of this drama. But boy, I sure heard about it.
I spent the night at MM's last night, and I don't get cell service up there, but when I headed to work this morning I saw that I had 4 new VM's. The first message was from my mother, "Holly, call me back when you get this." Ok, delete. The second message was from my sister, "Holly, I need to talk to you, mom's being dumb. Call me." Delete! The third message was from my mother, "Holly, where are you? Call me back right away." Ok, I was a little more curious, but still..DELETE. The fourth? From my DAD! "Holly, it's really important that you give us a call back. Your mom and your sister are at it again." Oh. Hell. No.
So I call my mom this morning. "You rang?"
"You need to talk to your sister. She's being a complete idiot right now. She won't listen to a word I say. You know, she got written up yesterday, right? Well, now she won't shut up about it and..." Damn, I sooo don't want to get drawn into this.
By the Grace of God, my cell service died right then and she got cut off. Whew! Saved by a bad signal. Except my service came back again not a minute later and my phone was blowing up again. This time it was my sister. She's in hysterics, crying so hard I can barely understand her, talking about what a jerk our boss is and what a witch our mom is and how she hates her job and hates her life and everyone hates her and her life sucks and...Oh.my.gosh. My head was pounding by this time. Seriously.
Is it really necessary for me to get drawn into all this? I just work here. I don't need to know about all of this, do I? Damn.
My cell service cut out again and then I shut my phone off. I figure, if I ignore it, it'll go away, right? Yeah, that would probably work if I didn't work with them. Instead of that being the end of my involvement, though, I had to hear about it first thing when DW got to work. Then I had four emails from my sister. And this was all before 8 a.m.
Someone, please shoot me and put me out of my misery! PLEASE?
